Movies I cant live without (3)

So in case you didn't notice I added something new to my blogs, a reaction bar, basically just click on it to say whether or not you think im full of shit or actually made some good points. Should help me figure out if i'm making sense :P Now to todays post...

The Day After Tomorrow (2004)
Starring Dennis Quaid, jake Gyllenhaal, and Emmy Rossum
Sudden weather changes disrupt the world as we know it as the Earth is plunged into a new Ice age. A climatologist tries desperately to reach his son in New York.

Why I like it:
1) Well despite a period where i strongly avoided this movie (please don't ask) I've always loved it. It's my go to movie when I'm studying, I've seen it so many times I practically know all the words. Why? Who knows. Its uplifting and great to see other freeze whilst you're warmly in bed (not that i'm a horrible person). I've seen it so many times i can lose focus and still no what's going on.

2) Jake Gyllenhaal's performance. Well not only is he awesome and totally hot but he was cute in a young almost looks the age he's supposed to be way. Plus the moment where his friend is stating how much of a nerd he is and jake is asleepish he half smiles is so cute. Positively dreamy :) Plus he gets shirtless :P And it's cute to see him all jealous and love-struck

3)The semi happy ending depsite the death of millions tugs at the heartstrings and is so uplifting despite the political role reversal aspects of the final scene. I wont give away too much here.

4) The special effects are brilliant. It actually looks like a wall of water rushing towards NYC and it actually looks like people are being swept up. Brilliant if i do say so myself.

5) Love triangle. Whilst it's easily resolved once disaster strikes I actually really like the way she has no idea about jake's characters' feelings for her. How she completely misses the jealousy but his other friend just thinks it hilarious that his competition is richer and more attractive than him. Its a really funny scene in the school's cafeteria.

So I really recommend this movie, I'm gunna give it 4.5 stars out of 5!

Movies I can't live without (2)

Toy Soldiers (1991)
When terrorists sieze control of a boarding school, a group of trouble-making boys decide to resist them. Stars Sean Astin, Will Wheaton, and a whole load of other people :P
http://www.imdb.com/video/screenplay/vi704577817/  <-- watch the trailer.

Now the first time I saw this movie was one of those random on TV things where you just change channels and a movie is on, being bored you watch it. Years later and it stuck with me enough that i googled the plot until I found the name of the movie then instantly bought it. It's been one of my favorite movies ever since. I'm not sure why it's stuck with me so much but I think it's something to do with the way the boys fought back, maintained their youthful rebellion and refused to let the terrorists break their spirits. Besides their teenage pranks are quite funny, in one scene after being punished by a teacher the group of friends move every piece of the Dean's furniture outside. The Dean and the teacher have a conversation in front of the boys where theyre basically trying not to laugh/. I always smile during that scene. ALWAYS.

I know it's an old movie but it's pretty awesome. Besides I've always kind of thought a young Will Wheaton was pretty cute...

Movies I can't live without (1)

There are a few movies that I really love. The ones that I watch when I'm studying or need cheering up. The ones that i seek out when I'm bored or sad. The next few posts I'm going to talk about a few of them to give you a glimpse into the twisted nuttiness that is me.

Today...Four Brothers

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0430105/
Four Brothers (2005) is the story of four fuckups brought together by one woman. After she is murdered they return home to find their mum's killer and tear up the streets of Detroit trying to find out why the sweet old lady was killed. Its the tale of four brothers struggling desperately to understand the hand they've been dealt and struggling through life with a fierce 'fuck-em-all" attitude. Stars Mark Wahlberg, Tyrese Gibson, Garrett Hedlund, and Andre Benjamin.

Why I love it:
1) Garrett hedlund's performance. As the youngest of the brothers the others rip on him a lot. He hides a brutal past. Adopted by Evelyn because his family hurt him he struggles to deal with the loss of the one woman he trusted to protect him. One of the early scenes where he's playing his guitar after clearly crying...so sexy, his voice becomes so deep. You just want to hug him. Not to mention the scene where he steps out of the shower to treat you to a nice glimpse of his butt. Very sexy...if only he'd turn around before putting the towel around him. And ***SPOILER**** When he gets shot...incredible. You suffer with him and feel his fear and pain as he tries desperately to hold on. One of the best d***h scenes I've ever seen.

2) It's funny. For a action/ drama movie it has some seriously amusing scenes. There's one where the brothers are talking and bobby is just sitting on the loo the entire time. It's quite funny.... "Just wait for me to wipe my ass Angel I'm coming with you!"Love it.

3)The way the brothers are willing to do anything to find out who killed their mother. To put everything on the line, fighting crooked cops, politicians, gangsters...all to have the chance to go up against the man running the local mob. It's so...heart wrenching.

4)The acting. it's bloody awesome. Unless some recent movies *cough* twilight *cough* the acting is actually good. The characters feel believable. You feel like you know them and understand their motivations. The actors are unbelievably good at their jobs we believe their body language, their language, their clothes. Everything fits our perception of the characters and their brutal lives.

5) I can't say this enough... Garrett Hedlund! That boy is fiine! MmmHHmMMmm

Keep an eye out for the next few posts...Serenity. The Day After Tomorrow. Harry Potter. Toy Soldiers.
